Single Vision Lenses

All our frame prices include basic scratch resistant single vision lenses as standard. These lenses are perfect for helping you see either far away or close up. Single Vision lenses are usually prescribed to help with either longsightedness or shortsightedness as they correct your vision for one distance. Single vision lenses can also correct for astigmatism.

Myopia

Known as shortsightedness. This occurs when light falls in front of the retina and makes distant objects appear blurry. Concave lenses are prescribed to allow light to fall onto the retina and produce a clear image. Your prescription will show a 'minus' sign to indicate short-sightedness.

Hypermetropia

Known as longsightedness. This occurs when light falls behind the retina and makes close up objects appear blurry, but sometimes distant objects may be blurry too. Concave lenses are prescribed to allow light to fall onto the retina and produce a clear image. Your prescription will show a 'plus' sign to indicate longsightedness.

Astigmatism

Caused by the cornea or crystalline lens being curved unequally so the light falls  at different points within in the eye. Astigmatism can occur alongside myopia or hypermetropia, and is corrected with a cylindrical lens. The 'cyl' in your prescription indicates your level of astigmatism.

Presbyopia

This usually happens in our mid-forties. The lens within your eye loses its ability to change shape and focus on objects close up, so requires additional positive power to assist. Single vision lenses or multifocal lenses may be dispensed. Your optician can advise you on the most suitable option.

Occupational Lenses

Occupational lenses are used for near and intermediate vision with less distortion than a varifocal. They are usually suggested for people who work in an office type environment as they help improve posture when on screens and reduce eye fatigue. This lenses can be perfectly paired with the Crizal Prevencia coating.

Varifocal Lenses

Progressive lenses, or Varifocals are usually recommended for those patients with presbyopia. This is a natural condition where the lens in your eye loses its ability to focus on objects close up and so requires additional positive lens power to see clearly. Varifocals are a more convenient option as they allow multiple areas of focus within one lens to save having to swap between multiple pairs.
